| Abstract | The present study describes the influence of the Low-level Jet (LLJ) located to the east of the Andes mountain and the associated precipitation over Southern Brazil. The objective of this study is to characterize the sinoptic situation for this type of eevent. LLJ case was identified by Bonner criterion 1. The data used are NCEP/NCAR reanalysis, surface charts, sattelite imagery GOES-8 and acumulated rainfall data from some meteorological stations located in South Region from January 19 to 24, 2003 period. An interaction between LLJ ocurried in January 23 and a cyclogenesis associated with the formation of a Mesoscale Complex Convective over this region was found. RESUMO: O presente estudo descreve a influência do Jato em Baixos Níveis (JBN) da América do Sul (AS), localizado a leste dos Andes, além dos sistemas sinóticos que atuaram durante o evento de JBN, associado à ocorrência de precipitação intensa na Região Sul do Brasil. O objetivo deste estudo é analisar a situação sinótica, identificando possíveis mecanismos de formação, manutenção e decaimento do JBN, durante o período de 19 a 24 de janeiro de 2003. Foram utilizados dados do National Centers for Enviromental Prediction (NCEP) para a composição dos campos de grande escala, cartas sinóticas, imagens do satélite GOES-8 e dados de precipitação acumulada em 24 h de algumas estações localizadas na Região Sul do Brasil. O caso de JBN foi identificado utilizando o Critério 1 de Bonner nos dias 22 e 23 de janeiro de 2003. Foi encontrada uma interação entre o JBN e a ocorrência de uma ciclogênese, também associada com a formação de um Complexo Convectivo de Mesoescala sobre esta região. |
